Volunteering Down South, AmeriCorps Week and more!

Every day, more and more families find themselves in a struggle to keep a decent roof over their heads. Habitat for Humanity knows that safe, decent and affordable shelter plays a critical role in helping families to create a new cycle, one filled with possibilities and progress.

Volunteering Down South

We have started hosting our volunteers for Collegiate Challenge and they did not disappoint. March kicked off with students from Thomas More College in Kentucky and followed with students from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Taking the time to travel many miles, forfeit your Spring Break, and give back is something to be admired. We greatly appreciate these students wanting to better themselves and our community by volunteering.

See photos of their work on our Facebook Page and like our page while you are there!

AmeriCorps Week (Mar. 11-17)

Habitat for Humanity was one of the first organizations to partner with AmeriCorps when is was founded in 1994. Through this partnership, more than 10,148 Habitat AmeriCorps members have served 109,830 individuals and engaged more than 3.7 million volunteers.

Habitat for Humanity of the MS Gulf Coast is proud to host Habitat AmeriCorps members and we thank all of our current and past members for taking the opportunity to make a difference.

Below are our current Habitat AmeriCorps members, Lucas, Anita, Yasmin and Ann with our AmeriCorps Host Site Manager, Melissa. This year for their service project, they chose to make frames used to make mats out of plastic shopping bags for the homeless and made a few mats as well.

WOMEN BUILD 2018

The week of Mother’s Day is Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week.

Habitat Mississippi Gulf Coast will be hosting our annual Women Build fundraiser in the four weeks leading up to Mother’s Day. April 17 – May 19, 2018 will be dedicated to empowering women on the construction site while raising funds towards sponsoring one house in Harrison County, one house in Jackson County and working on the houses during that time.

This 11th annual event will bring together Mississippi Gulf Coast area women as they grab their hammers and volunteer along with more than 17,000 women from across the country who are expected to volunteer at Habitat construction sites to help create a world where everyone has a decent, safe and affordable place to call home.

Families with children with a female head of household make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing.

More than 12 million children - one in six - live in poverty housing in the United States alone.

As women let’s build together to help house those in need THROUGH SHELTER WE EMPOWER.

Interested in participating or being a sponsor, email Angela, or call 228.678.9110.
