What do you remember as the best thing about work?
The best thing about work was getting to work with not only the numerous amounts of amazing volunteers but to work with (HFHMGC Construction Supervisors) Don Poff, Mark Vanaman, Jamie Morton, and last but certainly not least Brad Holland. Special Shout out to Denise Rybak and Paul Waters also.
About the Coast?
My favorite thing about the Coast was the hospitality from friends and the coast entertainment, whether it be going to the casinos and clubs or just gigging frogs and having a BBQ in a Friends Back yard. OH! – And the FOOD!!
In what way did the experience change you?
This Experience changed me…Meeting great people and listening to or getting to know someone else that I have never met and learning great networking skills. All the locals I got to work with and eventually become family with have been wonderful. I will miss them greatly!!
Great times and people passed through our apartment, #19 in Ocean Springs. Hopefully it could stay passed down to all the AmeriCorps who go through the affiliate. It is a great location where much history has been made. That was “Home Down South”. The grill we had out front made amazing meals for all our friends and neighbors. The apartment was left with two other AmeriCorps who became great friends. Now, they get to host the parties and grill on the same charcoal grill out front. Hopefully they get to host such friends also. I hope that future AC who live there will get to have as many great times and feel at home like I did.
Would you recommend serving with AC/Vista? What about HFHMGC?
I would definitely recommend serving as an AmeriCorps and with MGC Affiliate!
Where are you now? What are you doing? Did HFHMGC &/or AC Vista help prepare you for your new job?
I am serving another year with AmeriCorps at the Habitat Affiliate of Kauai Hawaii as a Construction Crew Leader. Only because of my great skills learned at the MGC affiliate, of course.
Do you see yourself volunteering in the future? In any particular field?
I do see myself volunteering a lot thanks to Habitat and AmeriCorps, its really great fun and you meet awesome people! WHEN I volunteer again I will love to build with Habitat again especially with HFHMGC!
Is there anything you would like to add?
Thank you so much Austin (HFHGMC Volunteer Manager) and to the affiliate for hiring me because my life is wonderful because you picked my application. The people I have met and the things I have learned and loved in the past year could not have been possible without you.
Chris Casey might be off on a new adventure with Habitat and AmeriCorps in Hawaii, but he will always have a home in the hearts of our staff. Thank you, Chris for making memories with us for awhile. We hope that you have fabulous adventures in your future; maybe some of them will bring you back to visit us here!
