Gulfport, Miss. (May 31, 2012) – Kailey Redding, 24, of Gulfport, MS recently began her position as VISTA Media Project Development Specialist with Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Redding’s duties include engaging individuals in donating, volunteering and homeownership with HFHMGC through social media and community outreach. This is HFHMGC’s second AmeriCorps VISTA member for communication and development. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty.

Debra Thomas, development specialist at HFHMGC is pleased with the new addition of the position and the employee. “We are so excited to have Kailey join us. With her out-going personality and skill-set, she is sure to be a huge asset to our department,” said Thomas.

Redding is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University. She studied communication and also has a minor in art. She has two associate degrees from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College – Art and Graphic Design. A Gulfport native, Kailey hopes to bring a new twist on outreach to her community, and to contact new people to volunteer.

“I know this community. I really want to use social media to contact and inform more people about Habitat. I think if people knew more, they would be more active in helping out,” said Redding.

Redding will incorporate social media such as Facebook and Twitter to inform future donators, volunteers and future homeowners on how HFHMGC can benefit their lives. HFHMGC plans to expand their outreach with this position, and add more AmeriCorps members in the future.
