Gulfport, MS (November 22, 2016) – Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast (HFHMGC) will be presenting a workshop titled Power Hour: Spending Planning 101.  This interactive course is designed to encourage participates to take control of their money by examining their motivations, habits and attitudes surrounding their personal finances.

The purpose of the course is to assist participants in identifying and setting SMART personal financial goals, developing realistic spending plans, and choosing the tracking method to best suit their family’s lifestyle.  The workshop is fun and interactive and informative.  Participants should bring or have access to a bank statement or spending trends for at least 30 days as well as a list of income and recurring expenses.

The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the HFHMGC office at 2214 – 34th Street, Gulfport from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Power Hour: Spending 101 is part of HFHMGC’s INVEST IN YOURSELF program to help motivated individuals and families achieve personal financial goals beyond homeownership. INVEST IN YOURSELF is a personal finance education and counseling program designed to equip individuals with the tools needed to reclaim control of their finances.  Courses and counseling cover a variety of topics including credit repair, developing a family savings & spending plan, rental counseling, foreclosure prevention, and much more.  Through an array of seminars, workshops and one-on-one counseling, participants will have the opportunity to learn valuable financial management skills and work with a Habitat program specialist to craft their own individualized action plan.
