GULFPORT, Miss. (September 8, 2016) – Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast will be presenting a workshop titled “Banking Basics & Money Management”. This course is for those with little experience using banks and introduces the basics of opening and maintaining checking and savings accounts. The course addresses the hidden traps of check cashing and pay-day loans as well as introducing participants to the wide range of free web sites available to help better manage their finances in order to reach goals.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the HFHMGC offices, 2214 34th Street, Gulfport from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.
Banking Basics & Money Management is part of HFHMGC’s INVEST IN YOURSELF program to help motivated individuals and families achieve personal financial goals beyond home ownership. INVEST IN YOURSELF is a personal finance education and counseling program designed to equip individuals with the tools needed to reclaim control of their finances. Courses and counseling cover a variety of topics including credit repair, developing a family savings & spending plan, rental counseling, foreclosure prevention, and much more. Through an array of seminars, workshops and one-on-one counseling, participants will have the opportunity to learn valuable financial management skills and work with a Habitat program specialist to craft their own individualized action plan.
