Finally, A Place To Call Home

“Having a Habitat home is a blessing. It was God who sent me to be in this neighborhood. I was shocked to be approved. I enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer and meet people. The volunteers who worked on my house were spectacular. My first experience with a Habitat volunteer group was a church group from Connecticut who were extremely kind, and went out of their way to help me. The other volunteers were excellent, too. One group came from CA and another came from South Dakota. Before the storm I lived in a Mobile home. During Katrina, my mobile home flooded with five feet of water. I was put into a FEMA trailer. I was so used to living in a trailer and I’d never had a house, so I’m still completely shocked at being out of my trailer! I come back to my house and am amazed that this is my home. When I first volunteered to build another HFHMGC house, I met a lady who later wrote me to say that she was praying for me and thinking about me. It’s interesting to meet true, down-to-earth people. Habitat volunteers really open their hearts. I haven’t got a chance to thank Loyce Searight who has helped me from the beginning, so I’d like to add that!”
