The week leading up to Mother’s Day is National Women Build Week. Families with children with a female head of household make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children – one in six – live in poverty housing in the United States alone. We are dedicating April 19th to May 13th to empowering women on the construction site while raising funds towards sponsoring a house in Gulfport.
This 10th annual event will bring together Mississippi Gulf Coast area women as they grab their hammers and volunteer.
Habitat will have teams working at our construction site in Gulfport (nicknamed the “Women Build House”) Wed through Saturday from April 19th to May 13th. We will provide all tools, hardhats, a t-shirt as well as some other fun giveaways. Teams will select a construction work date to be on the Gulfport construction site. Remember, construction or home improvement experience isn’t necessary. But, Habitat MS Gulf Coast will be hosting a “How To” workshop at Lowe’s titled “How to Properly and Safely Use Power Tools”.
We are asking each volunteer to raise a minimum of $350, which will go towards a house sponsorship for the Women Build House. Habitat MS Gulf Coast will provide tools for the Builders to use to help raise their funds including a peer to peer fundraising page, information about Women Build and Habitat MS Gulf Coast, suggestions for social media status updates and emails, thank you postcards to send to donors and any other help that may be needed.
