The week leading up to Mother’s Day is National Women Build Week. Families with children with a female head of household make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children – one in six – live in poverty housing in the United States alone. We are dedicating April 17th to May 19th to raise funds to build two houses, one in Harrison County and one in Jackson County, while empowering women on the construction site. This 11th annual event will bring together area women as they raise needed funds for the homes as well as grabbing their hammers to help build it. Women helping women sends a positive and powerful message.
Habitat will have teams working at our construction sites in Harrison and Jackson counties (nicknamed the “Women Build House”) Tuesday through Saturday from April 17th to May 19th. Teams can schedule a day on the construction site to work together to celebrate the success of the campaign. Remember, construction or home improvement experience isn’t necessary. But, Habitat MS Gulf Coast will be hosting a “How To” workshop at Lowe’s titled “How to Properly and Safely Use Power Tools”.
Each volunteer to raise a minimum of $350, which will go towards a house sponsorship for the Women Build House. Habitat MS Gulf Coast will provide tools for the Builders to use to help raise their funds including:
- peer to peer fundraising page
- information about Women Build and Habitat MS Gulf Coast
- suggestions for social media status updates and emails
- thank you postcards to send to donors
- any other help that may be needed.
We will provide all tools, hardhats, a t-shirt as well as some other fun giveaways.
